Job description

Why Greencore?

We’re a vibrant, fast-paced leading manufacturer of convenience food in the UK, and our purpose is to make every day taste better.

Employing around 13,600 colleagues across 16 manufacturing units and 17 distribution depots across the UK, we supply all the UK’s food retailers with everything from sandwiches, soups, and sushi to cooking sauces, pickles, and ready meals. In FY23, we generated revenues of £1.9bn.

Here at Manton Wood, we have a team of around 1,700 colleagues. We produce sandwiches and wraps for some of the biggest retailers in the UK, including Co-op, Asda, Morrisons, Boots, Aldi, and Lidl.

Our Manton Wood site offers a gym, a restaurant with hot food, and a staff shop available to all colleagues.

Role Purpose

To deliver operational training to our colleagues, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out their roles effectively. This includes both factory-based and classroom-based training, as well as induction programs for new starters.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Supporting the delivery of essential training and buddying in the first twelve weeks of employment for new starters, ensuring they are equipped to succeed beyond their probationary period.

  • Leading on-site inductions, delivering engaging classroom-based training sessions.

  • Going into the factory with new starters to provide hands-on, practical training and upskilling colleagues on production processes.

  • Working with subject matter experts to maintain, update, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), coordinating and delivering refresher training through observations, assessments, and policy updates.

  • Delivering training in key areas such as health and safety, compliance, factory floor skills, hygiene, and food safety in line with agreed standards.

  • Writing clear and practical Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and ensuring colleagues understand how to follow them confidently and consistently

  • Ensuring training records and skills matrices are maintained and up to date.

  • Conducting regular audits to quality-check and validate that training and competence standards are being met.

  • Monitoring and reviewing learner progress through feedback questionnaires, observations, and discussions with managers.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in a training or learning & development (L&D) role within a factory environment (this doesn’t have to be food manufacturing).

  • A strong understanding of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and how to follow them effectively.

  • A proactive, people-focused trainer who is passionate about upskilling and developing others.

  • Hands-on coaching or buddying experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.

  • Strong communication and engagement skills, able to deliver training both in the factory and in classroom-based settings.

  • Computer literacy, including experience with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email.

  • Flexibility to support shift-based training when required.

At Greencore, we celebrate our differences and help everyone to be themselves at work. Together, we make every day taste better.
